Sometime between Tuesday, 4/25 and Thursday, 4/27, we will practice lockdown drills in all three of our school buildings. Officers from the Chatham Police Department, Columbia County Sheriff’s Office, and New York State Police will assist us.
Typically, we would not notify you in advance of our drill, however, due to the recent swatting threats to area schools and the anxiety they caused, we wanted to let you know we will be holding these lockdown drills this week.
During this week’s drill, we will also be testing our new lockdown alarm that makes an automated lockdown announcement within the buildings; this will be new to our students and staff.
It is important that we periodically practice these drills with as many different variables as possible; our goal is to make sure our students and staff are prepared and safe.
If you have any questions, please contact your building principal or my office.

Dear Chatham Community,
some of you have brought to our attention that a local media outlet had incorrectly reported that Chatham was one of the schools targeted yesterday by the mass swatting calls that took place around the region. We wanted to thank you for bringing this to our attention and make clear that Chatham was not one of the schools that was targeted. We have contacted the news agency that made the incorrect report, and they have corrected the error.
Sincerely,
Sal DeAngelo -
Superintendent of Schools

The secure lockout has been lifted.
This morning, March 30, out of an abundance of caution, we entered into a secure lockout due to numerous schools in the Capital Region experiencing “swatting” incidents.
Chatham has not received any direct threat, and we have now lifted the secure lockout, and all operations are back to normal. Thank you for your continued support during these stressful and challenging times.
Regards,
Sal DeAngelo
All Chatham Central Schools are in a secure lockout today, March 30, 2023. There is NO THREAT to our schools and all students and staff are safe. We have entered into a secure lockout out of an abundance of caution due to numerous schools in the Capital Region experiencing “swatting” incidents today.
Swatting incidents are false threats made to schools with the purpose of triggering a police response and creating fear and panic. Several states across the U.S. have experienced similar mass swatting attempts in recent months. Again, no threat has been made to Chatham Central School District.
Please note that a lockout is NOT a lockdown. In a lockout, all outdoor activities are canceled or brought inside, but otherwise the school day continues uninterrupted.
As always, the safety and security of our students and staff is our priority.
Sincerely,
Sal DeAngelo
Superintendent of Schools
