Section 504
The Chatham Central School District is committed to growth for all students.
The Rehabilitation Act of 1973, Section 504, prohibits any federally subsidized program from discriminating against a person with a “handicapping condition.”
The act defines “handicapping condition” as a mental or physical impairment that substantially limits one or more major life activity, including: walking, seeing, hearing, speaking, breathing, learning, working, or care for self.
The Chatham Central School District has specific responsibilities to ensure that persons who qualify under Section 504 are afforded access to programs and program benefits equivalent to a non-disabled peer.
The Chatham Central School District recognizes our responsibility to avoid discrimination in policies and practices. No discrimination against any person will be knowingly permitted.
