Homeless Students and Families
The Chatham Central School District is committed to growth for all students. We recognize that when living arrangements are disrupted, or when students move frequently, educational growth may be compromised. Special considerations and/or services are possible for students who lack fixed, adequate and regular nighttime residences.
Under the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act, schools must identify students in homeless situations. Therefore, we ask questions at initial registration, and annually thereafter, to try to identify families in homeless situations. All such efforts are grounded in sensitivity and respect, keeping the academic well-being of the student in the forefront, and no offense to parents is intended.
To assist families with access to homeless services, the District has established a liaison; please contact Brian Simon at 518-392-1535.
