Chatham CSD is exploring how the latest electric school bus technology could apply to our District. There are many factors to consider, like capacity, range, charging, battery life, and maintenance. BlueBird, one of the major manufacturers of school buses, lent our transportation department a demonstration electric bus to test for a few days. On Friday, Supervisor of Transportation Services Joshua Loeffler brought Superintendent Sal D'Angelo and Business Administrator Mike Chudy up to speed on the bus’s main features, and the three of them took the electric big yellow out for a ride on the District's roads! Recent NYS legislation requires that all new school bus purchases be zero-emission vehicles starting in 2027.
