Stephanie Carbone

The Board of Education has appointed Stephanie Carbone as Director of Student Support Services for the Chatham Central School District, effective May 1, 2025. Ms. Carbone is a dedicated educational leader with over 24 years of experience in special education, data analysis, and information technology.  As Director of Student Support Services, she will oversee the District's special education, mental health, social/emotional learning, and medical services.

Carbone comes to Chatham from Questar III BOCES, where she is currently the Model Schools Coordinator.  In that capacity, she has proven expertise at improving student outcomes, leading professional development, and fostering inclusive educational practices for the betterment of public schools throughout Columbia, Greene, and Rensselaer counties.

“Working at the BOCES, I have had the opportunity to work with the school districts in the three-country region and Chatham always stood out to me. I really like the culture, feeling, and support within this school and community. It  aligns with my personal values with creating an inclusive learning environment for all kids.”

Earlier in her career, she served as a data analyst at Questar III and was a speech-language pathologist, district data support teacher, and the Sub Committee on Special Education chair for the Wynantskill Union Free School District.

Carbone holds a certificate of advanced graduate study in education from the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts and both a master’s and bachelor’s degree in speech language pathology from the College of Saint Rose. She is an International Society for Technology in Education certified educator and is certified as a school building and school district leader in NYS.  She is currently pursuing her doctorate in educational leadership from the Sage Colleges.

“As long as I can remember I have been drawn to the career of education.  I have always been an innovator and a problem solver and I enjoy working with all types of students, especially those who may need that extra support along the way,” Carbone said.

She and her husband Marty live in Wynantskill. They have a son in college and a daughter who is a senior in high school. They also have two black cats that Carbone says “look like little Chatham panthers.” These days, most of her free time is dedicated to preparing her doctoral dissertation, but she enjoys gardening, being outdoors, and challenging herself with logic puzzles of all kinds. Fun fact: she is also a black belt in Taekwondo.

Carbone will replace Chatham’s outgoing Director of Pupil Personnel Services, Brian Simon, who will retire at the end of June. Ms. Carbone will be working closely with Mr. Simon during the overlapping weeks to familiarize herself with the District’s people and programs.
