As part of the 8th grade’s study of the holocaust, students worked on a timeline project in social studies class. Students first became familiar with a real person from history and then, by building a multi-layered wall timeline, visualized how Nazi policy, the Second World War, and other historical events impacted that person. The project put a human face on the horrors of the holocaust and allowed students to tie together the many overarching events that enabled the persecution of Jews and other groups in Germany. This lesson was developed by the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum and is part of an ongoing cross-curricular study of the holocaust in 8th grade led by social studies teacher Mark Connelly, school librarian Donna Eager, and English teacher Jeffery Artist.
