Coming right on the heels of Chatham High School’s SADD (Students Against Destructive Decisions) seat belt check, the school hosted a Hang Up and Drive assembly for grade 0-12 featuring cell-free road advocates Jacy Good and Steve Johnson.

In May of 2008, both of Jacy’s parents were killed and Jacy was herself severely injured on the way home from her college graduation ceremony. The devastating wreck was caused by a driver distracted by a cell phone conversation. Jacy now travels the country sharing her story at high schools, colleges, conferences, and corporate events in an effort to prevent such horrors from touching others' lives.

Ms. Good has been a guest on The Oprah Winfrey Show, at Maria Shriver’s Women's Conference, and of United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon at his “Call to End the Global Epidemic of Distracted Driving.” She has also been featured as a "Hero Among Us" in People Magazine and on CNN’s The Human Factor among many dozens of other print and television profiles. A 2016 AT&T PSA starring Jacy went viral, with over 350 million views across social media. Together with her husband, Steve, they have given their Hang Up and Drive presentation to over 1,700 audiences in the U.S., Canada and Europe since 2011.

This event came at no cost to our school thanks to a national SADD grant CHS social worker and SADD advisor Tracy Kelly applied for.
