Student volunteers are taking National Coalition Building Institute (NCBI) leadership training today and tomorrow at CMS. NCBI training focuses on understanding the impact of self-awareness, personal identities, and stereotypes. It also provides students with effective ways to become an ally to others and take a leadership role in creating a more caring environment in their school. When their training is complete, these student leaders will present positive relationship-building activities for all sixth graders and lead workshops that reduce prejudice, conflict, and bullying by celebrating students' similarities and differences and by helping their peers better understand and appreciate one another. The training was organized by the CMS counseling department and led by guest NCBI trainers Tawana Davis and Ira Baumgarten.
