After five months of working hard to bring this story to life, Chatham Middle School’s Drama Club proudly presented Seussical JR., with performances taking place before a live audience on April 1st and 2nd in the Chatham Middle School auditorium.
Seussical JR. tells the story of Horton the Elephant narrated by the Cat in the Hat. Seussical JR. intertwines characters and stories from several Dr. Seuss classics, with the main premise following Horton Hears a Who.
The show featured many talented actors, including Isla Stack as Jojo, Paxton Brownell as Horton, Mason Hutchinson as Cat in the Hat, Sam Silver as Gertrude, Adelaide Searl as Mayzie, and Phila Visconti as Mr. Mayor.
Seussical JR. was directed by Kristen Van Note, musically directed by Abigail Brownell and choreographed by Fiona Phelps and Jessica Richard. When asked about working on the musical, director Kristen Van Note said, “Students have been working very hard through Covid restrictions and postponements and are thrilled to be able to perform in person! Horton will hear a Who and cheerful chaos will ensue when Chatham Middle School presents Seussical JR.!”
The production was also supported by Chatham High School’s Theater Production & Marketing class, taught by Michael Loomis and Elias Assimakopoulos. The class learns about the ins and outs of putting together a production and then uses that knowledge to assist in the production of Chatham Central School District’s various performances. For Seussical JR., the class painted and designed the set, created the program and show posters, and more.
