Student volunteers undertook National Coalition Building Institute (NCBI) leadership training this week at CMS. Hosted by the CMS counseling department, this training was led by guest NCBI trainer Tawana Davis, from Russell Sage College. It focused on students understanding the impact of self-awareness, personal identities, and stereotypes, as well as provided effective ways for them to become an ally to others and take a leadership role in creating a more caring environment in their school. With their NCBI training now completed, these newly minted student leaders will present positive relationship-building activities for our sixth graders. With assistance from school counselors, they will take an active role in leading workshops that reduce prejudice, conflict, and bullying by celebrating students' similarities and differences and by helping their peers better understand and appreciate one another.
Our 2021-22 NCBI trainees are:
Phila Visconti
Lauren Elcox
Madison Melino
Karina Lezama
