The duality of human nature manifests on stage as the age-old conflict between reason and passionate impulsiveness grips Macbeth and Lady Macbeth. Prompted by a prophecy from three witches that he will be king, Macbeth and his wife plot the murder of the King of Scotland and Macbeth snatches the throne for himself. But Macbeth, plagued by guilt and insecurity, descends into a reign of paranoid tyranny that ultimately brings rebellion to his doorstep. “Double, double, toil and trouble,” what else does the future hold?
Directed by Lori Evans and Kelly Johnston, Chatham’s staging of Macbeth is produced in partnership with the Fall Festival of Shakespeare sponsored by Shakespeare & Company of Lenox, MA. This annual artist-in-residency program gives students the opportunity to delve deeply into the works of Shakespeare under the tutelage of professional directors, actors, and stage technicians as they develop an 80-minute, full-scale production of the play. This year involves 39 of our students as either cast or crew.
William Shakespeare’s tragic tale of ambition, murder and madness played out on the Chatham High School stage November 11 and 12.
