Dear Chatham families,

We wanted you to be aware that today at the end of the school day, an individual brought to our attention that they had overheard students at Chatham High School allegedly making a threat against that school. School officials immediately involved our School Resource Deputy and secured the students who had allegedly made the threat. The Columbia County Sheriff's Office is investigating the matter but at this time has determined there to be no credible threat to our school.

We want to remind our students that threats of any kind, even those meant as a joke or prank, are taken very seriously and can lead to consequences for any individual who makes them.

As we mentioned to you last week, there will be an increased presence of law enforcement in and around our schools for the remainder of the school year, due to a state-wide directive issued by Governor Kathy Hochul.

We would like to thank the person who brought this to our attention and would like to remind our school community that if you hear or see something that may be a threat, to always bring it to the attention of either our school or law enforcement.

Sincerely,

Sal DeAngelo
Superintendent of Schools
