Ukrainian Folk Art Mural

A collaborative art installation celebrating Ukrainian folk artist Maria Prymachenko is on display in Chatham High School’s main lobby. The installation is in response to the Russian invasion of Ukraine and was created by students in our Studio Art, Graphic Design, Ceramics, Advanced Drawing & Painting, and Fine Arts classes under the direction of CHS art teachers Mrs. Scott and Mrs. Fahey. The students’ mural is inspired by Prymachenko's paintings, which symbolize hope, resiliency and peace, and are considered Ukrainian national treasures. After a museum that was home to a large collection of her work was destroyed in the invasion, Prymachenko's art has also become a symbol of world-wide solidarity and hope for the Ukrainian people.
