Students from Chatham High School attended the Future of Healthcare student workshop at the Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences (ACPHS) on March 15. During this healthcare career and exploration event, students participated in sessions that focused on academics and career planning in the health and pharmaceutical fields. During the academic sessions, ACPHS faculty taught coursework through hands-on activities and provided insight on what types of careers students can pursue through the programs they teach. Students also had an opportunity to tour the ACPHS campus with its state-of-the-art laboratory facilities (parts of which held surprising reminders of home!) and meet admissions staff.
“We were surprised at the number of students who expressed an interest, considering the event was held on a PD day - a day off for students,” remarked CHS guidance counselor Amanda Carroll.
The college only allowed districts to bring six students. From Chatham, students Annaleigh Butts, Skylar Groom, Sasha Langley, Sophia Middleton, Lylah Rowe, and Axel Vose attended. They joined approximately 150 students from nearly 45 public and private high schools.
“We are so fortunate to have exceptionally talented students in this region who are interested in pursuing careers that improve the health of our society,” said ACPHS President and Professor, Toyin Tofade. “It is an unprecedented time in the healthcare industry with future leaders needed in roles across the field.”
