Washington, D.C. Trip 2017

readong room of the Library of CongressChatham High School’s Washington D.C. trip was a tremendous success. This year our students had the opportunity to experience one of the most significant cities in the world. Their first stop was Mount Vernon with a tour of George Washington’s home.

The groups accommodations found them at the Key Bridge Marriott Hotel in Arlington, Virginia across the Potomac River from Georgetown University. Saturday morning they explored the National Zoo with its delightful Panda exhibit. Saturday afternoon students had access to all the buildings of the Smithsonian Institution on our National Mall. Many of our students elected to tour the Natural History Museum, National Gallery of Art, and the Air and Space Museum. That evening they toured the monuments and memorials that have made the D.C. skyline so famous.

Supreame Court

Sunday morning was spent at Arlington National Cemetery where they viewed the Kennedy graves, the changing of the guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, and Robert E. Lee’s mansion. Their afternoon at Baltimore’s Inner Harbor was a great experience for all. Many students felt the educational opportunity was tremendous and were thankful to their teachers that made it happen.
