Students Serve Up Holiday Cheer at CMS
National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) students hosted their annual holiday luncheon for area seniors on December 16th, with sixty-five guests coming to Chatham Middle School to enjoy some music, food, and conversation. The students and seniors took in a lively holiday concert performed by the grade seven and eight orchestra, grade seven and eight band, sixth grade orchestra, and sixth grade chorus before heading to the gymnasium where the students served up a turkey feast and some holiday fun.
The NJHS Senior Luncheon is in its twenty-third year at the Middle School. NJHS students are responsible for planning and carrying out all aspects of this award-winning service-learning event, from designing the decorations, to raising funds to cover the cost of gifts and dinner, to making visits to senior living centers to personally invite their guests. Chatham’s NJHS chapter has forty-two members in grades seven and eight and is advised by the school’s guidance counselors.
During dinner, Santa Claus (8th grader Ella Boshart) stopped by each table to spread a bit of holiday cheer, and afterward, everyone joined in a game of bingo where the seniors could win prizes the students had purchased and wrapped for them.
