CHS Senior Tapped for All-State Choir
Congratulations to Chatham senior Taylor Hanson, who was selected by the New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA) to sing in the All-State Mixed Choir. All-State showcases the most talented high school musicians from across New York State and being selected is a major accomplishment.
Taylor drew consideration from the All-State committee after performing a level VI (the highest level) solo at the local NYSSMA Solo and Ensemble Festival this past spring and receiving an A+ rating from the judges, and after being recommended for All-State by her choral teacher, Samantha McShane.
Taylor has been singing in her school chorus since the fourth grade and she has performed in every one of her schools’ musicals since that time. She has been attending NYSSMA festivals since level I in fifth grade and has performed at All-County and Area All-State. Mrs. McShane describes her as having “an amazing range.”
Taylor was thrilled with the opportunity to sing at the state level. “When Mrs. McShane told me, I couldn’t believe it. It had always seemed like an unobtainable goal but when I actually got it, it was one of the most incredible feelings I have ever had,” she said. “All-State has the best high school musicians in the state. It’s going to be a cool experience.”
Along with being a top-notch singer, Taylor is also a high-honor-roll student and a two-sport varsity athlete. She’s on the Panthers’ soccer and track & field teams and plays for the FC Dutchmen Premiere soccer program as well. She also is involved in student government.
Taylor traveled to the University of Rochester’s Eastman School of Music to attend All-State December 1st through 4th, which culminated in a public performance on December 4th.
Each year approximately 6,500 students apply and only 900 are selected for the various ensembles. The last time a student from Chatham made All-State was in 2009 and before that was in the 1990's. We are proud to have Taylor represent Chatham in 2016!
