Connelly Named CMS Dean of Students
The Board of Education has appointed Mark Connelly as dean of students at Chatham Middle School. Prior to becoming dean, Mr. Connelly worked as a social studies teacher at the middle school for the past twenty years, teaching eighth grade students for most of that time. As dean, he now oversees matters concerning student discipline and attendance, heads up the school’s Positive Academic Learning Skills (PALS) program, and promotes positive behaviors with at risk students, among other duties.
“I love the Middle School and have been here half my life. This is an opportunity for me to work with the students in a different way and have a positive impact on the whole building, not just one grade,” said Connelly. “We have a great faculty and staff here and I look forward to working with all of them as we invest in kids together.”
He succeeds former dean Cynthia Herron, who accepted a position as assistant principal at the Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk school district. Connelly’s appointment was made official by the Board at its September 13th meeting.
