Want to become a Chatham Panthers Coach? Being a Chatham coach is both an important and rewarding position. There are several NYS and District requirements placed on prospective coaches that must be met prior to your being appointed. In order to help our prospective coaches navigate this process, we have provided this web resource.

NON-TEACHER COACHES

A person who does not hold a current NYS teaching certificate may be appointed as a coach only if there are no certified teachers available with experience and qualifications to coach the team. In order to be eligible you will need the following:

REQUIREMENTS To be completed prior to appointment:

Completed with three reference sheets attached (one sheet per reference listed on your application)

NYS Coaching License
A non-teacher coach must obtain a Temporary Coaching License through the Questar III BOCES (Board of Cooperative Educational Services) by applying online through the NYSED TEACH system. You must apply for a Temporary Coaching License yearly until you obtain your Professional Coaching License, which is then good for three years. The application cost is $50, which the District will reimburse to the coach after proof of payment is provided.

NYS Fingerprint Clearance
All new coaches are required to undergo fingerprint clearance, please contact Terri Howard in the payroll office at howardt@chatham.k12.ny.us. The District will cover the cost of fingerprinting for volunteer (unpaid) coaches only.

Valid CPR/AED Certification
Coaches are required to hold a coaching-specific CPR/AED Certification. The District offers initial and refresher courses once per year, with a second course offering during the year if needed, at no cost to coaches. The District will also cover the cost of the course if taken through one of our approved providers. Please contact the athletic director for more information.
